Edinburgh Gin Cocktail Competition
A few weeks ago my work place held a mini inside competition to create a cocktail to represent Seamill Hydro at the yearly Edinburgh Gin cocktail competition. The rules were it had to include one of the main gins they produce including Edinburgh Gin, Edinburgh Seaside gin or Cannonball. It also had to include ingredients found on the Orangery Restaurant Bar and be made in a glass which was visually pleasing.
I came up with the below cocktail - Amore Capri - Love Capri.
Ingredients:
25ml Edinburgh Seaside Gin
25ml Limoncello
15ml Triple Sec
25ml Egg White
10ml Gomme
50ml Apple Juice
Served in a rocks glass over ice with a lemon twist/peel garnish.
The cocktail made it through to the final 10 with another contender from the Seamill Hydro competing as well. It was great to have a recognisable face to attend the competition with especially having all good selection of colleagues come and support us both.
I came an overall 4th out of 10. I was very pleased with this result being that it was my first major cocktail competition. The experience was amazing! I enjoyed talking about the reason behind why I picked the ingredients I had and why I found they worked well. I love creating new cocktails and sharing my tastes with more experienced mixologist was excellent. It was great to here good feedback for Amore Capri and it certainly won't put me off entering more cocktail competitions in the future.
The event also allowed you to taste a selection of the gins that Edinburgh gin have on sale just now. In cluding their new 1670 gin which was delightful. It has a fiery taste from the peppercorn infused in throughout and I can't wait to experiment with it for new cocktail ideas.
